Interview with Journey To Heal Ministries
My interview about childhood sexual abuse with Crystal Sutherland on the Journey to Heal Podcast felt vulnerable… but, in a good way.
We talked about the upcoming #hoperun2021 and the amazing and overwhelming support it provides for survivors.
When I attended the first run two years ago, I was amazed! After the race, I said, “I can’t believe this many people would show up for someone like me.”
For those who want to understand how to help survivors in your life, we talked about:
•ways to support survivors by understanding trauma (flashbacks, dissociation, panic/fear, etc.)
•what support feels and looks like
•what is helpful (and not helpful) to say (and ask)
•helpful responses to disclosure
For survivors, I shared what brought about the “little girl” in me finally walking into the light and experiencing healing. We talked about:
•helping the little child in you experience freedom
•it was not your fault – you are seen, believed, loved
•the heavy shame from abuse is not yours to carry
•hope, healing, and restoration are possible with Jesus!
