Sound of Freedom: 10 Reasons to Please Watch It

I went to see the movie Sound of Freedom, and I loved it and plan to watch it again. It was an excellent movie and I think you will love it too.
Here are ten reasons I am asking you to please watch this powerful movie:
- A packed theater would send a strong message. I sat between my mom and my husband, and maybe eight others were in the theater with us. I would love to see a packed theatre for this film. You can get free tickets to go to this movie. It can change the very life of someone you love. It can change your life. This is one of those movies. Please watch it. You can find out more about the free tickets, purchasing tickets for others, and see the trailer here: Angel Studios
- The movie makes it very clear that the people who choose to harm children and exploit them sexually make those selfish choices deliberately and repeatedly. They get away with it because thinking or imagining such evil exists is hard. This evil is real, and we must pay attention and know what to look for to catch those making these horrific choices. It will continue to prosper if we look away or dismiss this evil reality. Silence allows it to thrive. We must talk about it and speak up.
- It happens everywhere and to anyone. Just look at the local news reports. I see it in the headlines every day. Today, there was an article about a man arrested at a traffic stop, and police discovered a missing 16-year-old girl in his car. Sadly, there will be another article tomorrow. When you see these stories, read them to remind yourself that it happens everywhere and can happen to anyone.
- “It is too sad, too dark. I can’t watch stuff like that.” When I hear grown adults say this, I think, “Yes! It is deplorable and dark, especially for the seven-year-old child who has no idea what or why this is happening to them. Who is going to see them? Who is going to hear their silent cries?” This movie is not graphic, and it is well-written. You may cry or get angry – great! Those are normal responses to atrocious and criminal behaviors. It is okay to cry or get upset.
- Someone you know and love may have been or will be sexually abused or exploited. They are hiding secrets and shame because they are terrified. They need someone to say, “This is dark and awful, but I am a safe person for you to talk to.” Or “This is pure evil, and if anything like this ever happens to you, I want you to tell me. I want to know about it so I can help you. Please know that you can come to me with anything. I will believe you.” Survivors constantly watch and look for safety. Safety is hard to find. Please be informed and safe.
- Sexual abuse and exploitation is a problem. The first step is admitting there is a problem. It may happen to you or someone you love. If there are red flags, ask questions. Predators are incredibly convincing and crafty. It may be hard to see the evil when they are kind, successful, and charming. Look anyway.
- Stories are powerful and far-reaching. This story is about real people. God created these precious children in His image. Their experiences will open our eyes to the need to have these difficult conversations for the sake of future generations. Will you be the one in your family or church that says – we need to talk about this? It is real. Please watch it, and please continue the conversation.
- God sets us free. He will move mountains to bring you freedom. If you are silenced by shame and any sexual harm that was committed against you, He wants to set you free. Stories like this represent His pursuit of you, and this story will bring you hope.
- God also redeems. Redemption is possible for everyone, including predators, but it requires true repentance. Bring people to watch the movie with you. You never know who may need to see this.
- Lastly, as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I know how lonely it can be when most don’t want to discuss it. This movie will help us to have conversations and ask questions. Every time we show up to talk about sexual abuse and exploitation, we are making survivors feel seen and heard. We say to them, “We see you, and we care. This is wrong, and I am sorry it happened to you. What happened to you matters. You matter. I believe you, and I stand with you.” Please go watch the movie and have conversations. Ask questions.
I am planning to go again this weekend. It is that good, and watching it was good for my heart. I left invigorated and even more determined to shine His light into the darkest recesses of evil regarding sexual abuse. I wrote my book so that others would have courage and hope to know freedom is possible. I will share my story, speak, have Q & A sessions, etc., to continue to shine His light into the darkness. I would love opportunities to share my story of hope and healing, so please reach out to me. I am willing. And, please, please watch this movie.
Have you watched it? I would love to hear your thoughts.
