There are wolves among us

And yet we act surprised.
The last place you would expect to suffer harm is in church.
Church should be a sanctuary of safety. A place to rest, breathe, and let your guard down. A place to be yourself and “come as you are.”
We are all sinners saved by grace. No one is perfect. We are all broken in some way.
This is all true. And yet, the wolves seek to devour, and that is the difference.
They appear as light.
They quote scripture.
They say and do all the right things.
They are charming and charismatic.
They build your trust.
And then. They bite.
What looked good and holy was actually evil and sinister. How can this be?
